An ASB organization in which students of sophomore standing or above travel in Europe over Spring break. The group is organized by teachers Gina McMather and Tom Gambill.
TOUR Objectives
• Curricular connection to Social Studies, Foreign Languages and English courses:
Students learn history not two-dimensionally from books and pictures but by experiencing the geography, the art and architecture, landscapes, artifacts first-hand.
Students directly experience another culture: its language, food, manners, religious and artistic heritage, etc. Prior to departure in club meetings students will learn some travel phrases and all will have an opportunity to try out their language skills.
Students gain a richer appreciation of our shared past with Europe and a new perspective for understanding both our own culture and global contemporary events.
Students taking sophomore English and Modern History will tie their travel experience to class assignments.
• Life experience:
Students learn practical travel skills organizing their travel needs and prepare themselves mentally to make the most of their learning opportunity.
Students learn travel techniques and manners. They develop consideration for others and individual responsibility in traveling within a group of their peers.
Students build confidence and gain self-sufficiency skills toward establishing an independent life by operating in a new environment under guidance. The group travel arrangements, the knowledge and experience of teacher chaperones and the Passports Compnay courier and the companionship of their peers support the student in this travel adventure.
