Senior Class Poem 2012

It’s 2012 and presidential campaigning fills the air,
It’s Romney versus Obama, but who really cares?
These seniors are the leaders with swagger and flair,
Heck, Jake can convince folks not to sit in a chair.
Tristan ran UN--a Secretary General for the ages,
Queen Briel worked so hard at Rhody she should have got wages.
Jamison can make two cars become one in his grip,
Rachael rules the feline kingdom with just a little catnip,
But for the first Woman President?  Hillary or Palin won’t do,
We’ll all hold out for De Leo in 20-32.

Of course, she’ll need a campaign team of all different of sorts
Kirsten, campaign baker can make “I heart Christine” tortes,
Campaign manager? Gabe has the swag to be boss of the show,
But who’s boss of the boss?  It’s Rebekah you know.
Sonia will be painting presidential portraits by then,
Just ignore the tribal tattoo she’ll sketch on the president’s chin,
For Secret Service, there’s just one man the prez’ll need,
Mitch and his scowl can stop any misdeed.
Inauguration day, West Pointer Audrey will carry the flag,
Simon and Alesia will dance so the day doesn’t drag,
Todd will shred the anthem as we all stand tall,
While Will prepares local food for the presidential ball.
Laura, Karina and Bruny will be our Department of State,
Marie will remind us, compared to Norway, were still second rate.

But every government needs its rebels, its 99%,
and Ben will fight the big banks until their last cent is spent,
For an Axis of Evil, Holly’s your man,
With Ellie along, she’ll cook up nefarious plans,
To take over Comicon and steal nerdy loot,
Only... the best superhero of all?  Zander in his orange Mustang suit.

If utopias and fantasy are where your mind flees,
Leah revealed in Urinetown, there’s good satire--even in pee.
Urine Good Company with Shona’s hair on the loose,
It was part Willy Wonka and part Dr. Seuss.
Julian can dream up modern undersea worlds,
Marlee shares fantastical news that makes us all want to hurl.
Madison invented her own holiday called April Pools,
John created a world where playing chess turned out to be cool.

But if I was creating a perfect world, there’s just one thing that I’d do,
Kiley and Kaile’s state basketball dreams would come true,
Elsewhere in sports, 2012 is equally rich,
Harrison, Dylan and Luke each tore up the pitch,
Dylan K. and Justin’s wrestling was so classic they could’ve worn togas,
Megan might be the first PT grad to letter in yoga.
In tennis, Ben’s aces proved that less really is more,
In softball, Berkley and Chelsea could run up the score.
And of course there is always young Miss Unrue,
Who can chuck things as far as the big girls do.

But if you really want champions off the field’s where it’s at,
Taylor plays French horn like Ichiro swinging a bat,
Of our state champs this year there are but two more,
Maddie and Hailey’s marketing’s so good you’d believe Mitt Romney is poor.
Juchi led our knowledge bowl team’s state triple-threat,
While Sam G.’s courtroom theatrics made Uni. Prep sweat.

In senior projects these folks all showed us some heart,
Emily built houses and Michelle curated art,
Cole taught b-ball, Quinn Japanese,
Holly was in bone marrow donations up to her knees.
‘Kenzie collected blankets--she collected a lot,
Marissa proved statistically we ain’t as bad as we thought.
Madilyn K. helped out folks with mental health needs,
Ashley A. helped Grant Streeters learning to read.
Iree was out in the garden, working the land,
While Hanna and Stevi got that food in our hands,
Amber, Abbey & Ashley G. helped reveal big tobacco’s crime,
Amazingly Brittani presented without texting one single time.

Speaking of technology, this class could bring their teachers to tears,
Has Dylan Harris ever been seen without earbuds in ears?
Grace wielded a kitchen blowtorch, its flame always on,
Just in case she encountered Ryan with his lightsaber drawn.
Daniel’s knives in the kitchen were like lightning you’d swear,
Kristen turned writing utensils into art you could wear.
And Averi couldn’t live without streaming her shows,
But Nicole and Amelia kicked it old school--books rule don’t you know?

These Port Townsend kids they leave stereotypes behind,
Austin’s the football team captain with the philosopher mind.
Kelsey’s half laid back, half crusader for right,
Chad’s mild-mannered student by day, underground poet by night.
Juhi was half land dwelling human, half lord of touch pools,
Pandora was always half here and half somewhere more cool.

Now it’s time to, “stop... collaborate and listen,
Ice is back with a brand new edition.”
How creative are Ice folks? Taylor designed birdhouses all day long,
And didn’t once have to steal ideas from 90s rap songs.
Kym took pictures and Houston played cello,
Abby’s instrument is her laugh and boy does it bellow.
Alex and Davey’s kitchen creations are like a sweet song,
They can turn happy meals into soufflé mignon.

At Mar Vista, Megan was hardworking while Adam ruled the art scene,
Cameron was a determined fund-raising machine.
But the two Mar Vista grads we want to make sure to mention by name,
are Patty and Wanda.  Without ‘em it just won’t be the same.

We had three Stars Program stars with us for a while,
How bright were the stars?  Just watch Danell’s smile,
And Ashley could tell you which movies were new,
While at Jordini’s, Brandi made sure your coffee was just the right brew.

So 2012 has all come to an end,
and maybe their likes we just won’t see again,
for the presidential and CEO suites they are bound,
soon they’ll be telling us all what to do instead of the other way round,
And yes, I will miss them when I sit down to write, this time next year,
2013 has about twice as many students I hear.
