Senior Class Poem 2013

Well 2012 passed without armageddon destroying us all,

Thank goodness because the seniors of 2013 arrived just that fall,

This class takes the world as they found it and turns it just slightly askew,

They can turn “dated” into “retro” and then suddenly “new.”

This class’ style’s so unique they make punk rock look tame,

If they were a band they’d surely go on to some sort of rockstar-ish fame.

Jody could play lead guitar without even a hitch,

Britta’s pure vocals would make Autotune sound a little off-pitch,

Sam’s Bowie-esque voice will make that ‘80s vibe trendy,

Rinnah & Larissa play violin so well they’ll make it sound indie,

Aidan of course will be our band’s cello wiz,

Backup singers Rosie and Emily will sprinkle in lines from Le Mis,

On keyboards of course Renada will add a hint of sublime,

Brianna will agree to be in the band, if they only cover Tech-9,

They’ll have backup dancers too with plenty of swagger,

Fox News knows, Brian has got those moves like Mick Jagger,

Becky’s “happy dance” may be a little less hip,

But she’ll make Maddie laugh like a cat with some nip,

And dancing the Harlem shake, Addison sets the pace,

Was he face to face? Yeah...but next time please leave a little more space.

Yarro will write songs for the band that keep us tapping our feet,

Nakaia’s fantabulous make-up will have fans out of their seats,

The band’s thrift shop style will assure they’re never posin’,

One man’s trash is... Kevin Hughes lederhosen.

Dakota will design them a show poster that rocks,

Clint will be happy as long as we name the band “Seahawks,”

Miki will be the manager, lookin’ sharp in his suit,

Nick will handle the money (taking a big cut of the loot.)

And speakin’ of business who gets it done with more fun,

Than Emma and Molly M. managing Java-101?

Madison and Bailey’s coffee’s the best: just right, never bad,

But whatever you order--don’t make Gabbi mad!

Strange useless skills?  This class mastered a few to be fair,

Rita memorized each iteration of Jennifer Aniston’s hair,

Jordyn O’Meara can get you all shakin’ your hips,

Daniel is the king of finding weird Youtube clips,

In Mock-Trial, Karling can make witnesses cry without seeming mean,

Olivia C. has polished the “I’m taking notes, not checking Facebook” routine,

Casey can sound tough, but walks a nice guy walk,

Kaila can translate anything into Mary Poppins talk,

Kristen can tweet with the best in the profession,

Until Justin Carson hacks her feed and leaves a confession.

Dawn is a longboard expert, but can’t ride hills without harm,

Don’t worry, Bethany’s down at the ER to fix up her arm,

Brandon can take others’ insults and make them sound not so mean,

Devon can turn an old van into an Orange Dream Machine.

Winter loves to argue so much she could be “Class Contrarian,”

From Ben we learned “procrastinate” translates well in Hungarian,

And Natalie Range you know that girl’s got skills,

To manage Emmett the suave macho man from Brazil.

Jasmine’s so multilingual she can even speak Thai,

Nathan can dance Gangnam style even better than Psy,

Liz’s choreography turned Forrest into a dancing machine,

While Hannah could calm customers down without making a scene,

Enani was always happy despite the PT drizzle,

Molly Y. can handle most tools, just don’t give her a chisel,

Our list of master craftspeople, though, would not be complete,

Without mentioning Xavie, who made an art out of sleep.

On a desert island? Ask to be stranded with this class of ‘13,

Kevin W. and Lily can turn even sand into edible greens,

Erika will have a plan to save us, if you just let her prepare,

Mileta will make sure that we all have enough popcorn to share,

Vairea will write campfire stories to keep us entertained,

Josh R. will offer counselling when our psyches gets strained,

To get off the island, Allison could engineer a boat out of coconut hulls,

And Serena could design rigging to make it sail through lulls,

Jenny has the boatyard skills to structure and nail it,

And don’t worry: If it floats, Darby can sail it.

In sports, Freya ran ‘cross the country, almost right off the map,

Dillon R.’s the world’s nicest guy... until he gets on the mats,

Brittany can run... and run... and run, that girl never takes a rest,

With Irina the sport doesn’t matter, just know this: she’s the best.

In senior projects, this class did more than enough to get by,

I’m pretty sure Chace retrofitted his car so that it can fly,

Speaking of flying, that’s Ben manning the jet,

While Sarah was off leading her own string quartet,

Coleman made audio announcements seem really out-dated,

Raven managed to make Ping Pong a little x-rated,

Alex got kids playing their best soccer out on the pitch,

Ethan made food bullet-proof, but still tasty and rich,

Our EMT Dylan B. kept folks healthy and strong,

Bentley crunched the data to tell us what’s going wrong,

On the water, Olivia G. taught kids how to sail,

While beneath the waves, Alethea was making sure the eelgrass didn’t fail,

Jake got to see how an emergency rooms work,

Andrew filmed Nanda and all their quirks,

At the hospital, Cory helped bandaged bloody knees,

And Michael, I know I missed your presentation, forgive me finally, please!

And over at Mar Vista they represent with pride,

Pua can call out the rhythm while the Mar Vista boat glides,

Felicia helped raise 7000 dollars to keep maritime education afloat,

And ensure the next generation will have a chance to get out on a boat,

Tabitha’s work will soon have the art world all up in a state,

Justin Carter helped juveniles walk just a little more straight,

Olivia R. made sure every child got fed,

And Nolan could teach ukulele even home sick in his bed.

From overseas, Ray, Ana and Peter all rounded-out this class,

And with that 2013 was just the right mixture of serious and sass,

This class was so smooth they could get their way without telling lies,

Heck, they could even convince Mr. Gambill to eat a Big Mac and fries,

They made their own way, wrestled bears, started scenes,

Thankfully they left just enough undone for the class of 2014.
