Technology and French

Speak in French! Use your cell phones to talk to and text classmates about French homework or cultural activities. Better yet, speak and text in French!

Je regrette:             No cell phone use in class.

Explore on-line learning sites! Use the French class website to access links to on-line language learning sites such as Quia activities and other free on-line language sites such as LiveMocha and Duolingo where you can hear words pronounced.

Explore on-line francophone cultural sites! Take virtual tours from the best truffle troves…to the routes of Eurail... to the mosques of Mali.

Watch French film! Lots of great classic films available through streaming sources, the public library and local theaters. Check out the list of recommended films on the French class website under 'Films’.
Listen to Music! Access on-line music sites for the latest in French music or to hear the classics. Stream or listen to French radio at www.espacemu.org

Use on-line dictionaries and resources!  Helpful for learning new vocabulary or looking up spelling or gender of words, however……

DON’T USE TRANSLATION SITES TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!

 Why?

- They will get it wrong. Translation site are notoriously poor at translating the subtleties of language.

- They use advanced grammar that a beginning student doesn’t know (a sure sign of someone else’s work).

- You won’t be able to say it or write it on your own when you really need to communicate.

- You will get a 0 for any work that is not your own. When you are assigned homework, it is to practice the grammar and vocabulary that we are learning together in class.
