Welcome to the business education department at Port Townsend High School! I hope that you will enjoy your learning experience here and take many new skills with you when you leave.
Curriculum:
1st Quarter—Word Processing using Microsoft Word 2010
2nd Quarter—Spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel 2010
3rd Quarter—Database using Microsoft Access 2010
4th Quarter—Presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint 2010
In addition, we will use Microsoft Publisher 2010 for desktop publishing activities throughout the year, and we will complete Internet projects and activities online. There is the opportunity to take the Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams at the end of each quarter to earn proficient or expert certifications through the Microsoft IT Academy.
College Tech Prep Proficiency Standard:
Peninsula College has agreed to articulate with Port Townsend High School for the dual credit in this course for those high school students who successfully complete the Peninsula College competency requirements. The minimum grade standard for College Tech prep credit is 3.0 (84% B or better.)
To earn the college credits the student must:
- Complete one quarter (4 possible) in Computer Applications
- Earn a B or better
- Register through the College Tech Prep online system

Grading Scale:
Your grade for this class will be based on the following scale:
93-100 A 73-77 C
90-92 A- 70-72 C-
88-89 B+ 68-69 D+
83-87 B 63-67 D
80-82 B- 60-62 D-
78-79 C+ Below 60 F
Progress reports will be sent home every six weeks through the PTHS counseling office. Official grades will be posted at the end of each semester. Current progress and grades can be found at any time using Skyward Family Access.
Common Core Standards Addressed

Classroom Protocol:
It is very important to be in class each day ON TIME, seated and ready to work when the bell rings. The school’s tardy policy and 12-day absence policy will be in effect in this class.
Plagiarism and/or cheating is not condoned by Port Townsend High School. A student who cheats or plagiarizes the works of others is at risk of receiving a failing grade for the course in which such action takes place.
