Seal of Biliteracy

Can you fluently read, write, speak and listen in a language other than English?Biliteracy Seal

Did you know that heritage speaking students may earn up to 4 World Language competency-based credits by demonstrating high levels of proficiency in their heritage language? If you are a student in grades 7 - 12, you can earn up to 4 high school credits in a world language.

Port Townsend School District is proud to offer the Seal of Biliteracy and Language Credit Competency Testing. The Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Education has established the protocols for managing this program. Through the test, secondary students can earn one, two, three, or four credits in the student's chosen language.

Receiving four credits earns the student the state Seal of Biliteracy, pending meeting graduation state standard in English Language Arts. Secondary students at Port Townsend High School can register to take the test this spring.

We offer testing in the following languages. Testing for these languages is $25.00:

  • Arabic
  • Cantonese
  • Chinese (simplified and traditional)
  • French
  • German
  • Hebrew
